Stories and highlights
There's always something to celebrate at our school! From exciting events to proud moments and everyday wins, here are some of our highlights.
A year at our school
Each year we host a combined small schools' NAIDOC Day, where staff and students from other small schools in the Upper Hunter and beyond come together to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island culture.
We are a 'Sustainable School'. We have been supported by Muswellbrook Shire Council to promote sustainability programs at school. These programs include 'Nude Food', water conservation and recycling. Students also benefit from many outside organisations bringing presentations to the school which include bird watching, bush tucker and frog experts. We won also a Muswellbrook Shire Council Australia Day award for Sustainability.
Our school is very community orientated, and invite the local community to visit for many school events. In 2025 we hosted The Biggest Morning Tea, a Remembrance Day Ceremony, and a visit by a fundraising organisation called 'Camp Quality Motocyc'. We also took part in the local ANZAC Day March, a Bengalla Mine Tour and Walk Safely to School Day.
As Part of our High Potential and Gifted Education Policy, we run a "Big Buzz" bee program (Humble Hive Collective), a Kitchen Garden Program (based on the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation Syllabus), and a Community Garden group. What looks like heaps of fun at school is nurturing the potential of our students, particularly in the Social-Emotional learning, Intellectual and Creative domains.
Sandy Hollow Public School joins with other schools for many, many opportunities. We have visited Belltrees Public School for the Hunter River Health Check, Denman Public School for CPR training, Denman Wetlands for the 'Grime Scene Investigation (run by Awabakal Environmental Education Centre), Grip Leadership Conference, combined Singleton Small Schools excursions (Great Aussie Bush Camp in 2025), Cross Country Carnivals, Swimming Carnivals and we host a combined small schools' Athletics Carnival every year.
"We love our school for its supportive community and commitment to every student’s success. Our child feels safe and inspired every day.” — a parent of Sandy Hollow Public School
